Deputy District Rangers

YREKA, February 2006 - The Klamath National Forest is pleased to welcome two new Deputy District Rangers to its management team. The Deputy District Rangers were hired this fall to assist Happy Camp and Oak Knoll District Ranger Alan Vandiver, as well as Scott and Salmon River District Ranger Ray Haupt.

The new Deputy for Happy Camp/Oaknoll is Don Hall. Don was formerly the Community Development Officer for the Klamath National Forest and has moved downriver to Happy Camp since accepting the new position. “This is a great opportunity; I am very pleased to be working more closely with the river communities, the tribes, and the employees at Happy Camp and Oak Knoll, it is a job I’ve wanted for some time now” says Hall. Don received his Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources from Humboldt State University in 1975 and his Masters in Forestry from Colorado State University in 1986; he has held positions as a train dispatcher for Burlington Northern, an adjunct professor at Colorado State, and worked in several positions for the Bureau of Indian Affairs before coming to the Klamath NF in 2002.

The new Deputy for Scott/Salmon Ranger Districts is John Buehler. John hails from the southwest, where he has extensive experience in recreation, wilderness management, and fire fighting. He has already proven himself to be a valuable member of our forest and district management team.”

Both John and Don are eager to dive in, get to know the lands they are responsible for managing, and to meet the folks in their community. John recently remarked, “I'm very happy for this opportunity to work with communities that have strong connections to the land.
